Cypress Fitness Internship Program

Goal

The Cypress Fitness internship programs helps new trainers bridge the gap from the theory of training clients to the practice of training actual people in the real world. Interns will learn how to apply sound and time-tested exercise programming principles, refine their cueing skills, and develop the ability to apply anatomy and body awareness concepts in order to best serve a variety of clients ranging from the general public to high level athletes. Interns will learn to apply these skills across various formats, including one-on-one coaching, semi-private personal training, and group classes.

Philosophy

The Cypress Fitness approach is grounded in strength and mobility. Strength is the foundation for everything and is key to remaining pain free across a lifespan. Mobility combines strength with the resilience of joints and is preferred to flexibility. Form and quality of movement is ALWAYS better than quantity. Simple is best. Trainers should always be able to explain what the approach is with clients and why, grounded in an understanding of how to train clients pain free and in a way that prioritizes their pain-free functioning in everyday life. Be real, be compassionate, focus on the client’s goals and no your own and results matter!

Who’s it for?

The Cypress Fitness Internship Program is for new, up and coming personal trainers who have a passed their personal training certification, are looking to build some clientele, and get hands on training experience. Cypress Fitness offers a facility to train your own clients and an opportunity to build a client base with new Cypress clients. You’ll practice the real world application of everything you learned in your certification program and get expert feedback on giving the best service to clients.

The process

  • Time frame: 1-3 months

Shadowing requires a minimum commitment of three hours/week from anywhere from one to three months depending on the interns background and preparation. Interns will shadow Cypress Fitness’s lead trainer in personal training sessions and learn the basics of how to approach training from a place of deep integrity and a commitment to what works. Through this opportunity (a $204 value per week or $816 value per month, at no cost to the intern), interns will be able to experience what it is like to work with a variety of clients and learn how to conduct real-world needs assessments from the basics to modifications for clients with limitations in movement and/or ability. Interns will learn how to help clients improve mobility for safe, pain-free exercises and create brain-body connection. This is a chance for interns to grow their toolboxes for cues and equipment use to get clients to move better for better results. Optional: Interns may also shadow the coaching of FLEX session office hours for getting more practice coaching clients that come in for FLEX session programming. This opportunity for additional no-cost shadowing hours provides additional hands-on coaching time, accelerating growth and increasing the likelihood and timeline of being assigned paying clients.

  • Pay rate: $34 per session

Cypress clients that come from Cypress connections and marketing may be matched to a Cypress Fitness intern. At this phase, the interns will write workouts for the client which will be reviewed with the lead trainer prior to sessions for feedback. Before or after sessions, the intern can ask any questions and request feedback, particularly if the client is struggling or in any way having difficulty with the planned workout. The lead trainer will also provide consultation on client injuries or limitations to ensure the intern feels confident selecting modifications or the right corrective exercise approach. Scheduling, communication, billing tracking with the client will be done by the intern.

  • Pay rate: $48 per session

After the lead trainer is comfortable with releasing the client to the intern without reviewing plans the client will become the intern’s responsibility and the intern will now be considered a full Cypress Fitness trainer . The lead trainer will still be available for questions as necessary.

  • Rent: $15 per session

Outside clients, i.e. those not referred to the intern by the lead trainer, are considered the intern’s clients. Interns may train them as they deem fit as long as it is safe and responsible. You can use Cypress rates or your own.
